Personality: Shinji's face is usually blank and no one can tell what he's thinking. He is often looking for excitement because he thinks everything is boring. Often yawning and dozing off, Shinji is bored all of the time and he detests it. He only finds two things worth paying attention for. The first is power. If he finds a strong opponent, he goes wild and tries to learn the most from the experience. He will do almost anything to become the strongest shinobi. The second is love. Many girls think he's attractive but he pays no attention to them because he knows that they're just infatuated and fake. He is looking for true love and will do anything for it. Although these two things interest him the most, he doesn't know which one is his main priority.
History: Born into a civilian family, Shinji was borned and raised as a normal child. His brother, Takumi, was the first person in his family to practice the art of the shinobi. Takumi was an average ninja; he went through the academy without being too noticeable and eventually made it to the rank of Chuunin. Their parents were very proud of Takumi and hope one day he'd become a great ninja. However, tragedy struck the Aoi family soon after Takumi's promotion.
While Shinji was sleeping over at his friend's house, the Aoi household was robbed. During the burglary, there was a struggle and both of Shinji's parents were killed trying to defend their home. The next day, Shinji was told of the terrible news and that his brother Takumi left the village gates to chase after the criminals. A week passed by and there was no sign of Takumi. He was presumed dead.
Shinji was devastated at his loss. However, he wasn't mad at the criminals. He felt that it was his father's fault for not being strong enough to protect their household. He felt that if his father loved his wife and family, he would've become stronger to protect them. Eventually losing his anger and remaining at a calm state, Shinji joined the academy to become a strong ninja who would be able to protect the ones he cared about.
His academy years weren't too exciting. Shinji was always excited to learn new techniques and shinobi information in class but he was always felt that the assignments were too boring and a waste of time. Because of this, Shinji saw himself as one of the better ninja in his class but his grades didn't quite show it. Eventually, Shinji learned that even though the work was boring, he would have to do the work to become a Genin. By the time he graduated the academy, Shinji was ranked 3rd in his graduating class and felt that it wasn't good enough. He knew that he wasted time during the academy, so he would have to work ten times harder as a Genin to gain the strength he wanted.
